About Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp Trek also popularly known as ABC Trek is one of the most beaten trekking trail of Nepal. The naturally decorated green forest, breathtaking river, serene lakes and waterfalls are the remarkable part of this trek. And the cultural part of the trek is also notable for every trekker. The people’s lifestyle, traditional way of living and the welcoming hospitality makes anyone happy during the trekking period. Every year many hundreds of thousands tourist visit this popular trekking trail.

The trek takes you to the base camp of world’s 10th highest mountain Annapurna, which is ultimate goal of the trek. The 10/12 days itinerary up to Annapurna Base Camp offers magnificent experiences, which may not exist in other regions. The trek starts from Pokhara, which is popular as adventure capital of the world. There are two ways to get Pokhara city, one is by road, which takes 4/5 hr, and another option is by Flight takes 30 minutes from Kathmandu. The next day we drive up to Nayapol and start trekking. The average walking duration in each day is 4/5 hr to maximum 6/7 days. Most of the part of the trail is situated in Annapurna Conservation area, which is rich in flora and fauna. The conservation area is home of Red Panda, Musk Deer, Assamese Monkey, and Himalayan Thar etc.

The trek follows popular villages like Ghandruk, which is best to experiences local culture. GhorepaniPoonhill are the natural viewpoint, to observe panoramic mountain views, which rises at 3400m from the sea level. Also it is hub of sunrise and sunset trip for short hiker.

Spring and autumn are the mainly popular season for trekking. However, winter and summer are also good to go there. We strongly recommend you to have proper trekking gears. And also we request to drinks more water while getting high altitude.

Welcome to the Himalayan country, Nepal. Upon your arrival, our Southcol Adventures' representatives will greet and drive you to your respective hotel. Our trekking leaders will meet you in the hotel and brief you through the trekking routes and upcoming day's plan. You may rest and discover the city of Thamel the remaining time of the day.

    After breakfast, we take scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara via tourist bus taking about 7 hours. However, if you want a short trip to Pokhara, you can take flight option which is you have to pay an extra cost. Stay overnight in Pokhara. Experience the vibrant nightlife with bustling streets, lively clubs and delicious local cuisine and cultural shows.

      We embark our day today with short scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul taking about one and half hours. From Nayapul, we start to trek and reach a checkpoint at Birethanti  where your permits paper will be checked inorder to enter Annapurna Conservation Area. The trail move ahead following along the banks of Modhi river and about 4-5 hours of hike through sub-tropical forests and villages, we get to the Tikhe dhunga where we spent the night today.

        After breakfast, the trail resumes initially crossing the suspension bridge over Bhurungdi river and climb steeply on the stone staircases utill we reach Ulleri village(2070m). After reaching Ulleri, the trial follows through dense rhododendron forest, pastured land, terraced fields, multiple streams. Moving past the Banthanti village, the trail ascends gradually though the forested path where we may spot kingfishers, dippers, redstarts, forktails and many other birds. Taking about 4- 5 hours we reach Nangethati(2430m) where we stop for the lunch. After a short break, enjoying the stunning views of mountains including Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri, we trek for additional 2 hours to get to Ghorepani where we stay overnight.

          To watch the sunrise view over the mountains, we start our hike towards Poon Hill early morning at the dawn time. Ascending through the forested trail, we reach Poon Hill. From this viewpoint we can enjoy the breathtaking sunrise view over the  himalayas with sparkling golden sun rays. After spending joyful time watching the stunning panoramic view of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Hiunchuli and others, the trail descends back to our lodge in Gorepani and take short break for breakfast. We then ascends through Pine and Rhododendron forest and climb on a steady ridge to reach Deurali and further, the trail descends down sharlpy to Nange Thati. After moving past a small stream, an ultimate climb takes you to Tadapani where we stop our journey today for the overnight stay.

            The trail continues with downhill trek through rhododendron and pine forests. We move accross a suspension bridge after passing the forested section, and immediately climb up to get to Ghurjung. We take short break to relax, take tea, interact with locals, enjoy the mountain views and explore near by areas. The trail gradually ascends straight to reach Chomrong village where we stay overnight. 

              After taking delicious breakfast, the trail resumes descending to Chorong Khola, pass a suspension bridge and start to climb up on stone staircases, move past lower Sinuwa and reach upper Sinuwa. The tails progresses passing though bamboo and rhododendron forests, climb on stone stairs to get to khuldighar. We hike up later fall down sharply towards the gorge and traverse through bamboo and rhododendron forests to get to Himalaya Hotel, where we stay overnight.

                Today's trek is the major highlight of this trek. The trail continues traversing through dry forest to reach Hinku cave. After a short descent towards the river, we climb uphill to get to Deurali. Moving further, we have to walk catiously as the trail passes through avalanche prone site. Following the narrow steep path, leaving treeline and we ascend gradually on rocky moraine to reach Machhapurchare Base Camp. This viewpoint offers the marvelous view of Mt. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hinunchuli and Gangapurna. After taking lunch and having joyful time, we walk 2 more hours to reach our much awaited destination, Annapurna Base Camp. Witness the awe-inspiring mountain with sunset views over the Himalayas. Overnight stay in tented camp at ABC. 

                 

                  Wake up early to capture the stunning sunrise reflecting on the Annapurna range. Its a long trekking day today. After taking modest breakfast, the trail descends the same path moving past Machhapurchhre Base Camp, Deurali, Himalaya Hotel and Dovan to get to Bamboo. Overnight stay at Bamboo.

                    We resume our journey retracing the same route till Chomrong in which the journey passes through Kuldi Ghar, Sinuwa. During the jouney, explore the Sheep Experimental Farm. After reaching Chomrong, the trail follows explore the  the steeply downhill trail accompanied by Modi River to get to Jinu danda. Overnight stay at Jinu Danda.

                      After taking tea early morning, we move downhill towards a hot spring which takes about 20 minutes. Dip into the Hot Spring water helps to get rid of physical sufferings. After exploring nearby areas and taking relaxed breakfast, we drive through Jeep to reach Pokhara taking about 3 hours. 

                        We drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus which takes about 7 hours. However, if you want a short trip to Kathmandu, you can take flight option which is you have to pay an extra cost. Enjoy the vibrant nightlife in Tamel and shop for souvenirs for your loved and closed ones.

                          The adventurous, exciting, and entertaining Annapurna Base Camp Trek comes to an end today. Extend your stay and enjoy other packages if you have enough time for staying in Nepal. You shall be transferred to the airport for your flight to your onward destination by a representative of Southcol Adventures.
