About Pisang Peak Climbing

Pisang Peak Climbing is undoubtedly the most popular Peak among the trekking peaks in the Annapurna Region of Nepal. Pisang peak (6,091 m) lies just north of the Manang Valley.

Pisang peak climbing is a popular 6000 m expedition that is suitable for any level climber. This is a beginners level trekking peak. So, if this is your first climbing then the Pisang peak is perfect.

You will be walking in beautiful forest paths viewing various mountain peaks. The routes of this trip are conjoined with the Annapurna Circuit routes. So, you will also be able to meet many trekkers on the way.

Along with reaching the summit, you will also be crossing a high pass, Thorong La pass. And visiting Jomsom and Muktinath some popular towns on these routes.

Our Pisang Peak Climbing itinerary is about 19 days long. It takes you on an adventurous journey in the great Himalayas. You just be ready to enjoy this trip and leave everything to us.

A warm welcome to mountainous country, Nepal. Our representative will be standby to greet you upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome and assist you to transfer to your hotel. After your refreshment time in hotel, we will meet again in the evening for a welcome dinner during which you can savor authentic Nepali cuisine and get a taste of the adventure that lies ahead.  Additionally, Our team will brief you about the upcoming trips and overnight at the hotel.

    Our trekking leaders will meet you in the hotel and check your trekking and climbing equipment and their conditions and suggest you buy or rent the necessary kits from the trekking shops in Thamel. We require climbing permit and other restricted area permit to be allowed entering in these regions.. After taking permit, we can spend our time visiting various heritage sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Bouddhanath.

      Today, we will be travelling the whole day taking about 11-12 hours. After warm delicious breakfast, taking jeep, we start our scenic adventurous drive alongside the Trisuli river. While travelling, we pass through lush green forests and tall cliffs accompanied by various rivers. Following the winding roadway trip on foothills leading our route to  the beautiful seven lake city, Pokhara. 

      We proceed our drive towards Manang district passing through amazing landscapes, terraced fields and crosses many beautiful villages. About 5 hours of scenic drive from Pokhara take us to Dharapani.

      Overnight stay at Dharapani

        We kickoff our trek from today. The trail immediately passes through steep forested route with many landslide prone area accompanied by mesmerising mountain peak of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II.  We hike up and move past Bagarchhap and continue to walk on a lush rohododendron forest. The trail walk past koto and then traverse through easy route leading to  the headquarter of Manang district, Chame. Overnight stay at Chame.

          The trail begins by stepping towards Bharatang. Reaching there you follow the trails along the bank of Marshyangdi River. After traversing across a suspension bridge over the river the trail starts to ascend up to Dhikur Pokhari. From here you will enter an enchanting coniferous forest. After moving past the forested trail we trek passing across a small settlements and move further shortly to reach Pisang,  a small village that lies on the banks of Marsyangdi River. This place offers the astounding views of Pisang Peak and Annapurna II. 

          Stay overnight at Pisang.

            Enjoy the breathtaking views of Mt. Annapurna , Gangapurna and Tilicho lake. This day is set aside for acclimatization and explore near by areas of Upper Pisang. Though, we take rest to get our body relaxed after a long enduring journey, we opt to do short and exciting hike around Upper Pisang to make our body remain active.

            Stay overnight at Upper Pisang.

              After taking early morning breakfast, we ascend through dense forests and rocky paths towards Base Camp. While passing through various settlements you can witness the prayer flags, monasteries, ancient architecture, unique culture. Abour 4 hours of ascents take, you to Pisang Peak Base Camp. Upon reaching Base Camp we set the camp, take lunch and take rest.

              Stay overnight in tented camp at Base Camp.

                We are getting closer to our long awaited destination. Today, the trail ascends through steep and rocky path. About 3-4 hours of climb on the south-west ridge we get to the High Camp. Upon arriving High Camp, our trekking guide will set up the camp. For tomorrow's summit day preparation,  climbing leader will guide you through the effective ways of utilizing the climbing kits, such as ice axe, carabiner, harness and ascender. Moreover, they will focus on climbing techniques using ropes to climb up and down. 

                Overnight stay in the tented camp at High Camp.

                  To catch the sunrise view and to avoid the strong winds during afternoon, we leave the camp very early morning.  The trail ascends on rocky surface with high elevation, walk past the ridgelines and then follows the fixed rope set my the Sherpas. This section is more streneous which requires high stamina with physical strength and technical experiences. You have to get through the tough 70 degree sloped hill using the 200m rope and then, the reward is priceless being in top of Pisang Peak. Celebrate your glorious time of your life along with the mesmerizing panoramic view of Annapurna, Manaslu, Chulu range, Himlung, Tilicho Peak and many others. After taking pictures and spending joyful time at the peak, we then, descend back to Base Camp.

                  Overnight stay in tented camp at Base Camp.

                    After breakfast, the trail descends from the base camp and trek mostly on the river banks with windy and dry atmosphere. After reaching Braga, we can observe the vegetations and landscapes varies drastically from desertic to greneer. About 6 hours of exciting journey, we reach Manang Village, which is situated at the Marsyandi River Valley. Upon arrival explore the unique culture, tradition and know the history of this region.

                    Overnight stay at Manang.

                      It's a short trek today. The trail resumes moving through the alpine grass and junipers accompanied by scenic beauty along with multiple streams. While hiking through a rugged route passing scattered villages, we can encounter the wild goat and yak grazing in the pasture land. About 3-4 hours of gradual ascend  later on the steep hills with exploring the surrounding views of the Annapurna range, the trail reach Yak Kharka, where we stay overnight.

                          We embark our trail today with an immediate ascent and cross  a suspension bridge to reach Ledar. We, sometimes ascent ,descent and walk on flat surfaces and cross multiple suspension bridges. During the trail, we can observe the changes of terrains from the meadow vegetation to the dusty, rocky and dry landscape. Before reaching Thorung Phedi, we hike on the narrow rocky ridge and pass through steeply slope which is landslide-prone. We stop our journey toady at Thorung Phedi as it brings the pleasant night in a beautiful atmosphere being in the lower altitude. 

                          To avoid the windy atmosphere, we continue our trek early morning before the sunrise. Taking about 4 hours after the challenging trail with steep ascent and descent, we get to Thorong-la pass. This is the world's highest pass and mostly used pass bringing the incredible views of Mount Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu. We, then, descend gradually towards Muktinath and the elevation decline sharply. About 7-8 hours of the gradual walk on the amazing landscape takes you to Muktinath. In mukthinath, we visit muktinath temple which is the sacred temple for Hindus having 108 taps and two ponds which run through natural spring, and monastery for Buddhist followers. We spend beautiful time in Muktinath and stay overnight. 

                            After morning breakfast, we proceed our trail towards Jomsom through Kagbeni. This part of the trail is desertic, dry, windy and dusty. For the first hour, we pass terraced fields,  streams, and other 3 hours of walk on barren hills, we reach Kagbeni. After spending quality time visiting the traditional and religious village with old monasteries, we navigate our route towards Jomsom. We descend on the windy and dusty unpaved path to get to the deepest gorge in the world, the Kali Gandaki Gorge. Walking about 3 hours on sandy trail, we reach Jomsom where we spend the night.

                              Spend your day visiting various heritage sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Bouddhanath. You may go for last minute shopping to take some souvenirs for your near and dear ones. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner in a typical Nepalese Restaurant with cultural show. You may also wander around in the streets of Thamel. Pack your bags for your return flight to the onward destination. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

                                  • Pisang Peak is classified as Alpine grading PD+ which means this peak is moderately difficult and is suitable for intermediate trekkers seeking a challenge and to build up the good foundation for advance mountaineering. Due to its technical challenging climb in nature, it is required to have high alltitude trekking experience with basic mountaineering skills. As a climber has to traverse about 10 hrs of long tiresome journey and ascend through final exposed and snowy ridge with 70 degree slope, often in thin air and in freezing temperature, excellent fitness is essential for successful summit. Inappropriate acclimatization can cause altitude sickness due to rapid altitude gain and massive elevation of 6,091m.

We highly recommend post-monsoon season for Pisang Peak climbing as the fact of suitable weather conditions with the drop in temparature, clear skies and safer climb. Winter season is also possible but its risky due to extreme coldness with unpredictable snowstorms and avalanches this season brings.

                                  • Yes, hiring a certified guide is mandatory to climb Pisang Peak. Actually, a well-trained guide is necessary to assist you with logistics, navigate the route and provide safety and stay standby in case of emergency rescue. To make trekking comfortable and climbing easier and to carry heavy luggage, we recommend to hire a porter.

                                  • Absolutely yes, Pisang Peak is considered moderately challenging peak where climber has to traverse through multiple steep snowy slopes and exposed ridgelines which needs the proficient use of equipment like crampons, ice axes, jumars, descenders along with rope climbing skills. To summit Chulu East peak, excellent physical fitness, previous trekking experience above 5000m and basic mountaineering skills are striclty remommended.

                                  • Absolutely Yes, altitude sickness is a real concern while climbing Pisang Peak. As of rapid altitude gain and altitude above 6000m can lead to fatigue and Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) if not managed properly. Proper acclimatization and awareness of symptoms are crucial to prevent severe altitude-related illnesses.
