The hidden valley of Nepal also known as Tsum valley is one of the mysterious place in Himalaya. Tsum valley trekking route within the Manaslu region is a perfect trekking trail of Nepal. The northern part of the region is totally occupied by Tibetan people. Although the Tsum valley and Manaslu region was restricted area until 2008. Still, all the trekkers who are wishing to visit this region should have special government permit.

The Tsum Valley and Manaslu area is rich in full of magnificent mountains, adventurous passes, deep gorges, hamlets, Gompas and chortens. The trek to Tsum Valley takes you into the majestic surroundings of the dazzling mountins including Ganesh Himal, SringiHimal, and BoudhaHimal ranges

The local people are strong devotee of Buddhism. They have their own living style, which may be quite unique for tourists. There are some of the oldest monasteries, which are always a remarkable part. Tsum valley is still less exposed in comparison to other trekking areas. For those who are looking for the less crowed trail, Tsum valley would be best.

As an example of interesting fact, all the brothers in the family marriages to a single girl. This is how the people of Tsum valley have a unique tradition. This is practice of Polyandry. Typical style of people’s languages and meals are truly fantastic.

Welcome to the Himalayan country, Nepal. Upon your arrival, our Southcol Adventures' representatives will greet and drive you to your respective hotel. You may rest and discover the city of Thamel the remaining time of the day.

    Our trekking leaders will meet you in the hotel and check your trekking and climbing equipment and their conditions and suggest you buy or rent the necessary kits from the trekking shops in Thamel. As the Manaslu region and Tsum valley are restricted areas, we require Restricted Area Permit to be allowed entering in these regions. After taking Permit, you can spend your time visiting various heritage sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Bouddhanath. The rest of the day is free to explore Kathmandu City.

      We will have a long drive to Machha Khola today either by jeep or a local bus. After early morning breakfast, we get ready, recheck our belongings, get on a jeep/bus and drive smoothly following the Prithivi Highway till Dhading besi. We, then, cross the Trishuli river and ride on the bumpy road for about 3 hours to reach Arughat where we take a short break. We, then, continue to drive to Soti Khola which takes about 2 hours. While travelling, you can see the mesmerising views of Mt. Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. Another 2 hours of drive takes you to the stopping point of the journey, Machha Khola. Overnight stay at Machha Khola. 

        Today is the first day of trekking. We start our trek passing accross Tharo Khola river and hike towards Khola Besi following the narrow trail. With frequent rise and falls, the trail takes us to Tatopani, a natural hot spring where you can dip, relax and heal from your physical suffering. 

        The journey moves forward crossing the Budhi Gandaki river through a suspension bridge and then, climb on the stone staircases that take us to Doban where we take short break for lunch. The trail resumes descending towards Yaru khola river, traverse a suspension bridge and then, climb on stone stairs to get to Thado Bharyang.  After passing few more bridges and ascending a final ridge, we reach Jagat, a small traditional  village predominately by Gurungs. Overnight stay at Jagat.

          As we are in the entry point of Manaslu Conversation Area, to enter the restricted area of Tsum Valley, we register our permits at the checkpoint in Jagat. After breakfast, the trail climb over a ridge to Salleri, cross a long suspension bridge and trek uphill to reach Philim where we stop for a lunch. We restart our trek moving past Ekle Bhatti, cross a magnificent gorge and reach the intersection point where the trail separates one towards Tsum and other to Manaslu. Enjoying the breathtaking views of Sringeri Himal and other snow-capped peaks, the trail proceeds passing through pine  and rhododendron forests,  several villages, and later, hike on narrow and steep path to Lokpa village where we stay overnight.

            Today, we are entering the Tsum valley. As we will directly stop for lunch after completion of trek today, we consume plentiful breakfast. The trail progresses descending to Lungwa river valley and start to hike through the most landslide prone area being cautious and maintaining steady stride. Moving past landslide area, the trail climbs up through lush forests of fig, rhododendron and pine trees, offering spectacular views of Ganesh Himal. After passing a ridge, we traverse across wooden bridge, and walk gradually to reach Chumling, a beautiful village surrounded by traditional houses and ancient monasteries. Overnight stay at Chumling.

              We resume our trek following the route to Dumje which is the biggest city in Tsum valley. During the trek, we can encouter several chortens and mani walls accompanied by magnificent views of Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal. The trail passes accross Shyar Khola to get to Rainjam. Following a rugged and steep climb after crossing Serpu Khola we reach Chhokang Paro where we spent the night. Explore the traditional village encompassed by classical stone houses, ancient monastries, along with farmland of maize, barley, potato and buckwheat. 

                We are having quiet a short trek today. After taking warm delicious breakfast, the trail commences to walk passing through a few tiny villages and hike to Lamagaon (3,202m) accompanied by chortens. After a short walk, moving past Lamagaon, we stop for a while and visit Milarepa Piren Phu Cave, known as pigeon cave. It is one of the most sacred meditation site adorned by prayer flags and mani walls. Moving further, we get to Chule and walk few minutes more to reach Nile. It is the final human settlement to the northern side in the upper Tsum Valley. Overnight stay at Nile.

                  Today's trek is the shortest among the rest of this trial. The journey resumes hiking up through pastureland and semi barren landscapes. About 3-4 hours of steady climb takes you to the highest point of this trail, Mu Gompa, where we stop for the night. Explore the rich Tibetan lifestyle and culture of this region as it resides near to the Tibetan border. Mu Gompa monastery is sorrounded by Chortens and offers stunning snow capped mountain views. 

                    After exploring Mu Gompa in the morning, we take warm delicious breakfast and retrace our same path upto Phurbe and then, we divert our route towards Chhokang Paro. On our way to our destination today, we visit Rachen Gompa, which is one of the ancient monasteries in this region. After spending short time in Gompa, we traverse through the dense forest route to get to Chhokang Paro where we stay overnight.

                      For the three days from today we are in a highly recommended side trip which includes two stopping spot Gumba Lundang and Ganesh Himal Base Camp. After breakfast, we descend the previous path for about 2 hours to get to Gho village. We keep diving further on a narrow path towards Syar Khola, traverse over wooden bridge and then, we start to hike steeply trail anto reach Domje where we take short break for lunch. 

                      The trek restarts climbing up through the forest of pine, oak and rhodendron trees untill we reach the place with mani walls adorned by prayer flags. From here, we start to hike up steady and make steep zigzag climb through the forest of huge silver pine trees to reach Gumba Lungdang. In this monastery, about40–50 nuns do intense puja everyday during 6:00 am–7:30 am. After taking permission from the monastery representatives, we set tents in the monastery yard and use its kitchen. Witness an awe-inspiring panoramic views surrounded by mountain peaks. Overnight stay in a tented camp. 

                        As we are having long distance to cover today, we need to carry sufficient water and packed lunch. After taking early morning breakfast, the trail moves through the forest and traverse the wooden bridge over Langdang Khola and hike towards the Torogumba glacier and climb up that leads to the Ganesh Himal Base Camp. The wilderness and the magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, directly upfront, will make our side trip more exceptional.

                        After spending joyful time at the lap of the majestic Ganesh Himal, we retrace our steps back to Lungdang for an overnight stay.

                          Today is the last day of our amazing side trip. After breakfast, the trail descends retracing the journey back to the intial point of our side trip. Following the familier path, enjoying the exceptional mountain views and stunning lanscapes, we arrive at Chhokang Paro where we stay overnight.

                            As to navigate our trail towards Manaslu region and to reach that spot, we trek to Chumling today. Following the familier path, the trail descends passing through pine and rhododendron forests to reach Gho, cross a bridge over Shyar khola, hike to Rainjam and move accross several chortens and mani walls and descends further to reach our destination for today, Chumling.

                              The trail navigate towards Manaslu region leaving tsum valley today. After breakfast, we descend about an hour following the same route back to an intersection point, where we finished our tsum valley trail and divert towards Manaslu circuit taking right. 

                              The trek to Manaslu circuit starts traversing though a suspension bidge over Budhi Gandaki River and hike up to Nyak Pedi. Moving further, we pass through the dense forests leading to Deng Khola. After crossing the river we reach Deng village, a small settlement inhabitated by gurungs. Overnight at Deng.

                                We rejoin the trail descending towards Budi Gandaki river and cross the suspension bridge and hike to Rana village and ascend further on zigzag trails to reach Bhimphedi. As the journey progresses, we climb on stone staircases, move past several waterfalls and streams. We hike up to Ghap after crossing the bridge over Shringi Khola where we stop for lunch.

                                After taking lunch, we continue our trek moving through dense fir forests, pass accross a waterfall and traverse on a wooden bridge and ascend about 2 hours to get to Namrung where we stay overnight.

                                  We are having relatively shorter distance to cover today. The trek starts with the immediate steeply climb through forested trail leading the journey to Lihi. Witnessing the astonishing views of Himal Chuli from south and breathtaking view of Ganesh Himal from the east, the trail descends to th Hinanag river after crossing Simnang valley. Walking further, we reach a small settlement called Sho, which offers you the crystal clear views of Manaslu North. 

                                  The trail hike up steely, move past an enormous prayerwheel. With the final climb to the ridge where a village called Lho resides. Use rest of your time to explore Lho village. Overnight stay in Lho.

                                    Today's trail is the easiest and shortest trek and is considered as acclimatization day. Following the easy trial we move past Shyala village and we hike into pine and rhododendron forests and reach to a stream. Walking further about an hour takes us to Samagaun where we check-in for an overnight stay. Use your remaining time to explore Samagaun and its culture and traditions and also visit neaby monasteries.

                                      We need a much needed break after the long tiring journey. To recover our worn out feet, today's day is allocated for acclimatization. Samagaon offers various ways to pass your day. If your feet are good to go then, you opt to walk to Birendra Tal (1hr), Anie Gompa, trek to Pungyen Gompa (4hrs) or hike to Manaslu Base Camp(5 hrs). Trek back to Samagaon for the overnight stay.

                                        The trail resumes walking through yak pastures accompanied by mani walls. After an uphill climb we descends towards Budi Gandaki river. We traverse accross wooden bridge over the river and walk short distance to reach Samdo. Upon arrival in Samdo, behold the pleasing Samdo Peak and explore the natural beauty along with the tibetan lifestyle of this remote village. Stay overnight in Samdo.

                                          After a warm delicious breakfast, we proceed our trail descending towards Budi Gandaki river and traverse accross the suspension bridge and keep on trekking passing through mani walls. The trail get interesting as we climb through Juniper forests witnessing Marmots whistling, cross couples of ravines and streams. After hiking up through a valley, we reach Dharmasala where we stay overnight.

                                            As we have to cover longer distance today, we leave Dharmasala immediately after early morning breakfast. We embark our journey ascending on rugged trail and pass across glacial moraine. After passing four frozen lakes, a final uphill climb takes to Larkya La Pass(5160m), which is the highest elevation of our entire trek. Due to high elevation, it brings strong winds and snowstorms. This pass offers staggering views of diverse Himalayan landscapes and incredible snow-capped peak of Annapurna II, Himlung and kang Guru.

                                            After spending joyful time on top of Lyarka La Pass, the trail starts to descend through glaical moraine, with frequent steep uphills and downhills, then descend more deeply thorugh loose gravel to grassy moraine. Walking further passing through pasture land, followed by mani walls, we reach Bhimtang where we rest tonight. Enjoy the outstanding view of Mt. Manaslu.

                                              Today is the last day of our trek and is relatively longer to stride through. After early morning breakfast, the trail descends through moraine towards Dhudh Khola, pass across a wooden bridge and walk down the forested trail to Homopuk village. We descend following alongside the Dhudh Khola river to reach Karche. Move past the landslide section, an uphill climb and steep descend get to the Gurung village, Gho. 

                                              After taking short break for lunch, the trail resumes passing through pasture land, traverses several bridges over Dudh Khola, walk past terraced field to reach Tilije village. Following the Dudh Khola riverbank and descending through the forested path leading to Thonje village. After crossing the final bridge over the Marsyangdi river, we reach Dharapani. We ended up our long trekking journey today.  Stay overnight in Dharapani.

                                                After breakfast, we will take a jeep or bus to and drive to Besisahar passing through the bumpy road taking around 3 hours. Upon reaching the Besisahar bus stop, we change another bus to Kathmandu and take scenic drive along the riverbanks of Marsyangdi and Trishuli River following the Prithivi Highway enjoying the diverse landscapes, terraced fields, hills and mountains. About 5-6 hours of travelling, we reach Kathmandu.

                                                  Spend your day visiting various heritage sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Bouddhanath. You may go for last minute shopping to take some souvenirs for your near and dear ones. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner in a typical Nepalese Restaurant with cultural show. You may also wander around in the streets of Thamel. Pack your bags for your return flight to the onward destination. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

                                                    The adventurous, exciting, and entertaining Manaslu Trek via Tsum valley comes to an end today. Extend your stay and enjoy other packages if you have enough time for staying in Nepal. You shall be transferred to the airport for your flight to your onward destination by a representative of Southcol Adventures.
