Born in Hangdewa, Taplejung, home to the world-renowned Kanchenjunga Himalayas, as the eldest of eight children in a farming family, he grew up in a remote mountain community with limited opportunities. At the age of 14, he left his village, beginning a journey that eventually led him into Nepal's tourism industry.
Beginning as a porter in 1992, Moti built his Himalayan career step by step—from cook and local guide to mountain guide and expedition leader. This journey gave him a wealth of firsthand experience in mountain environments, expedition operations, logistics, and leadership. Moti Bhattarai's journey reflects perseverance, hard work, and a lifelong connection with the Himalayas.
