Born in Deusa, Solukhumbu, in the heart of Nepal’s Himalayan region, Saubir Rai grew up surrounded by majestic mountains and a strong trekking culture. The natural beauty of his native place and the influence of the local tourism community inspired his early interest in the industry and shaped his lifelong connection with the Himalayas. With more than two decades of experience, he now serves as an experienced Trekking/Tour Guide at South Col Adventures, sharing his deep knowledge of the mountains, local culture, and communities with travelers.
He completed his high school education in Salleri, Solukhumbu, and later earned a Master’s degree in Political Science. His academic background, combined with many years of field experience, has strengthened his communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Saubir started his career in the tourism industry as a porter and gradually progressed to become an Assistant Guide and then a professional Trekking and Tour Guide. His early experience in portering and camping helped him gain practical knowledge of trekking logistics and working in remote mountain regions.
Over the years, he has developed extensive experience in trekking, high-altitude travel, climbing, camping, group leadership, and remote-area operations. Since joining South Col Adventures in January 2012, he has guided travelers across Nepal’s trekking routes and cultural destinations. For more than two decades, he has also led groups to Tibet and the sacred Kailash region.
Saubir has completed professional training in trekking guiding, city tours, first aid, helicopter marshalling, and basic climbing, further strengthening his ability to lead and support travelers in different environments.
Known for his strong leadership, technical knowledge, friendly nature, and ever-present smile, Saubir is highly appreciated by guests and has received many positive reviews for his dedication and professionalism.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time in nature and participating in outdoor activities. With his extensive experience and genuine passion for the mountains, Saubir remains a trusted and valued member of the South Col Adventures team, dedicated to providing travelers with safe, enjoyable, and memorable experiences across Nepal and the Himalayas.
